Protect Your Pet’s Health with Pet Vaccinations, Pet Dental Care and Wellness Exams

Annual pet wellness exams can help our veterinarian diagnose a condition before it seriously impacts your pet’s health. During the annual exam, veterinarian Dr. Michael Barra or another member of our veterinary staff will conduct a full physical exam and diagnostic tests. These tests may include a fecal exam, blood count and urinalysis. This helps us diagnose an internal condition, like a thyroid imbalance, parasite infection, or cancer, prior to the presence of external symptoms, allowing us to effectively manage and treat this condition. Just like in humans, prevention and early detection are the best treatments!

Getting your puppy or kitten off to a healthy start is essential to his or her long-term health. That’s why our veterinary clinic also has a special focus on preventive kitten and puppy care. Young pets need to receive a series of pet vaccinations every three to four weeks, starting at eight weeks of age until sixteen weeks of age. For puppies, these vaccinations include DHPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza and Parvovirus), Bordetella and Leptospirosis. For kittens, our veterinary clinic provides FVRCCP (Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Chlamydia and Panleukopenia) and FELV (for Leukemia).

At the appropriate age, both puppies and kittens must be vaccinated against rabies. Our puppy and kitten veterinarian will deworm your pet and place your pet on a heartworm prevention regimen. We can also recommend flea/tick prevention programs. And while the decision to spay or neuter your pet is a personal choice, we highly recommend that all pet owners do so. Our spay and neuter operations are an important way to protect your pet’s health while reducing the unwanted animal population and multiple precautions are taken for your pet safety.

Our comprehensive pet dental services can prevent the occurrence of many serious health problems. In fact, periodontal disease is the leading health problem for dogs over three years of age – with more than 80% of dogs showing symptoms of gum disease. Doggy breath is not just unpleasant; it’s a sign that your pet is suffering from the build up of bacteria around the gum line. These bacteria can easily cause an infection, and if the infection enters your pet’s bloodstream, your pet could be at risk for serious heart, lung, and kidney problems. An annual dental cleaning will remove the build-up of plaque and tartar.

As your pet ages, a semi-annual visit to our Middletown veterinary clinic can help keep your pet healthy and active well into his or her golden years. Routine visits also help our team recommend natural, non-invasive treatments, before these conditions compromise your pet’s health. For example, dietary supplements like fish oil can naturally manage age-related conditions such as arthritis.

From your pet’s first months to her golden years, keep your pet healthy and active with our Middletown pet wellness exams and programs!
